Prince Harry mentions in Episode 5 of the series that he went to Sandringham, the royal estate in Norfolk, in 2020 to discuss potential royal roles for the couple with his father, brother, and grandmother, the late Queen.
He recounts the meeting, saying, “It was horrible to have my brother scream and yell at me and my father utter things that were simply not true, while my grandmother sat there quietly and listened.”
He stated that his ideal had been to be half-in and half-out of the Royal Family, with him and Meghan performing their duties while also supporting the Queen, but it soon became apparent that this was not possible.
“It became immediately apparent that this objective was not up for discussion,” he stated.
Regarding the Queen, he stated that her ultimate objective and responsibility had been the Royal Family institution.
Harry further stated that a joint statement was issued without his permission in his and his brother’s names after the meeting, rejecting a rumor that William had forced him out of the Royal Family.
He characterized the action as an “I lied to protect my brother, adding, “I had no other choice at that time.” I stated, “we must leave this area.”
