Although he claims to have improved his health after giving up “the main poisons,” the Libertines frontman disclosed that he is afflicted with diabetes.
Pete Doherty disclosed that he has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, compounding his other persistent health complications.
Over the years, the 44-year-old guitarist and vocalist of The Libertines has been candid about his struggle with alcohol and drugs.
He stated in an interview with the Saturday magazine of The Guardian that his health improved after he abstained from “the principal poisons.”
“You are then informed that alcohol, cheese, and sugar are equally as harmful, and that you were healthier while on heroin,” he said.
He acknowledged that he was “a little bit of a gourmand” and continued, “This is no laughing matter. I have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
Moreover, I currently lack the self-control necessary to address my cholesterol.”
Additionally, Doherty reflected on his father-son relationship. He stated, “I feel that a significant portion of the reason I’ve altered my lifestyle, especially since getting married and quitting heroin, is to earn his acceptance.” I adore him so much.”

Doherty and his spouse, Katia de Vidas, welcomed a daughter named Billie-May Doherty in May of the previous year.
They married in 2021 as Puta Madres members with de Vidas on harpsichord and Doherty in the lead. Doherty has two other children from previous relationships.
