Rola Nashef, a Hollywood director, also paid tribute to her friend on Facebook, writing, “A heartbreaking loss of an enormous life – Mike Batayah, you were everyone’s friend. I refer to everyone.
“There isn’t a person I’ve introduced you to or waitress who took our order that you haven’t made laugh, ponder, be inspired, or cheer for.
“You desired that we all triumph. I am still unable to accept this news. People continue to assert, “But I just spoke with him last week” — not texted or messaged him, but spoke with him. Because you are a former classmate who was loyal, wise, and invested in the people you cared about.
She continued, “Amin Matalqa accurately referred to you as the ‘Robin Williams’ of Arab America. Your sense of humor and stage, screenwriting, television, and film talent was brilliant, audacious, and courageous.
“I pray fervently for your sisters, nephews, nieces, and cousins, as well as for our entire community, who will forever experience your loss. Rest in serenity, dear Mike; you will always be my friend.”
