The 48-year-old comic has co-hosted the program for three seasons, but he says he is having trouble balancing it with other ventures.
Matt Lucas stated that he is “passing on the baguette” upon announcing his departure from The Great British Bake Off.
He stated that it was a “delectable experience” and that he could not envision a “more enjoyable” way to spend his summers.
The 48-year-old comic has co-hosted the show with Noel Fielding for three seasons, but he has had difficulty balancing it with other ventures.
He has a new part on the revived sitcom Fantasy Football League.
“Farewell Bake Off!” he posted on Instagram, adding, “It has become evident that I cannot host both Fantasy Football League and Bake Off with my other initiatives.
Therefore, after three seasons and fifty-one episodes, I am passing the baguette on to someone else.
Lucas heaped respect on his co-stars, such as “Noelipops” (Fielding) and judges Dame Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood.
“I would want to express my deepest appreciation to everyone, especially the staff and, of course, the beautiful bakers, for making me feel so welcome in the tent,” he said.
Co-host Fielding remarked that he would miss Lucas’ “spark,” but added, “I completely support your decision, Matt!”
Hollywood stated that Lucas was “wonderful,” and Dame Prue stated that she “really enjoyed working with” him.
