A 22-year-old with a number-one album and a fan club that includes Taylor Swift and Sam Smith.

Not a terrible collection of accomplishments for Maisie Peters.

The singer is about to embark on her most extensive tour to date, performing at festivals and arenas around the globe.

Before leaving, she visited lesser venues throughout the United Kingdom to “keep live music alive.”

Maisie Peters: 'I want to keep smaller venues thriving'

“However, I also want to support smaller businesses,” she says.

I think it reminds you why you do what you do, and especially after Covid, I want to keep places like this going.

You may have witnessed Maisie’s recent performance on the iconic Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, where she played for thousands of people.

Or perhaps you witnessed her earlier this year headlining concerts around the world and opening for Ed Sheeran on his stadium tour.

However, how does preparedness for a venue with a capacity of 800 compare?

She says, “I would say it’s more relaxed, but that’s not always the case.”

“It’s more casual because sometimes I don’t change or even brush my hair,” my coworkers joke.

But Maisie says she takes her performances seriously, regardless of the size of the stage, to provide the greatest experience for her fans.

It appears to be profitable. If her Southampton performance is any indication, her devoted fans arrive hours in advance to guarantee a front-row seat.

In addition, smaller venues promise a much more intimate experience.

Maisie says, “I love the spontaneity of the shows; we take requests, we do Q&As, and I can interact with the audience.”

“If someone heckles me, I can heckle them back… always politely, though.”

As a musician who began her career as a street performer in Brighton, Maisie is familiar with heckling.

This period is credited with making her a stronger performer and providing her with experience in front of a live audience.

“You learn a great deal, including how to engage a crowd and keep them engaged,” she explains.

Manifesting prosperity?

The Good Witch, Maisie’s most recent album, debuted at number one last week, making her one of the youngest British female solo artists to achieve this feat.

She quips that, as a self-proclaimed good witch, she is constantly manifesting.

She attributes picking up the instrument 12 years ago to Taylor Swift, and some believe Maisie could be “the next Taylor Swift.”

It is one thing to be compared to your idol, but Maisie can also consider her a fan.

I adore Taylor.” She is my savior. Consequently, I am honored by the comparison. But she remains my number one.”

When asked whether she is manifesting a collaboration, she grins and responds in the affirmative.

“I can’t tell you because then it wouldn’t happen, but the thing about me is that I’m always manifesting.”
