- “Mean Girls” stars reunite
- In Walmart Black Friday ad
- References to iconic film
In addition to Daniel Franzese and Rajiv Surendra, other original cast members appear in the commercial; however, Rachel McAdams (Regina George) is not in attendance.
After nearly two decades apart, the stars of the iconic adolescent comedy Mean Girls reunite in a new Walmart Black Friday advertisement.
As adults, Lindsay Lohan (Cady), Amanda Seyfried (Karen), and Lacey Chabert (Gretchen) revisit North Shore High School in response to the arrival of a new trio of “Plastics” pupils who are superficial, affluent, and the antagonists of the 2004 film.
Familiar Faces Return After Two Decades
Adulthood has not, however, abandoned the motifs that Mean Girls aficionados recognize.
In a voiceover that establishes the setting, Lohan, 37, who portrays a guidance counselor, states, “At North Shore, certain things remain constant. Wednesdays continue to be pink day.”
Regina George Missing from the Reunion
Cady, who was initially marginalized, continues to employ the colloquial term “grool” (a combination of “great” and “cool”) when interacting with the students. Gretchen endeavors to popularize the term “fetch,” which signifies “awesome,” despite the fact that it never existed.
“Your path to wealth begins here – don’t wait, get your free Webull shares.”
Karen, meanwhile, is a disorganized weather reporter who remarks on the apparent as she becomes drenched: “There is a 30% chance it’s already Wednesday”—a reference to the original’s “30% chance it’s already raining” line.
The advertisement for the American hypermarket chain does not feature Regina George, the leader of the Mean Girls’ “plastics” and the film’s primary antagonist (Rachel McAdams 44).
Fans will also recognize Daniel Franzese (Damien), who oversees the Winter Talent Show, and Rajiv Surendra (Kevin Gnapoor), who delivers a motivational speech to his son Kevin Junior.
Inverting the “sex education” scene, rapper Missy Elliott delivers a lecture on early Walmart deals to the pupils in the role of a gym instructor.
Additional well-known expressions and motifs are incorporated into the advertisement, such as “word vomit” and a revised “Burn Book” that showcases Black Friday deals rather than malicious rumors.
Lohan uploaded the video to X (previously Twitter) with the following caption: “Enter, closest companions. We intend to go shopping. “Next week, #BlackFridayDeals will go live.”
Mean Girls Stars Promote Black Friday Deals
Lohan stated in an interview with Variety magazine, “It was wonderful to be back together after all these years.” “It was a pleasure to reconnect with all of you.”
Chabert, age 41, further stated, “Spending the day with Amanda and Lindsay was a delight.” It was a delight to reconnect and reminisce after all these years had passed.
The nearly two-minute-long advertisement promotes a variety of Black Friday discounts and products from the retailer.
