Scott and Charlene’s wedding on Neighbours, portrayed by Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan, is one of the most iconic in the history of soap operas. Minogue has now disclosed the plot underlying the couple’s return to Ramsay Street, which had been kept strictly under wraps…
The music superstar rose to prominence after starring as Charlene in the 1980s Australian soap opera, and she recently returned to record reunion sequences to commemorate the show’s 37-year run.
Minogue will return to Ramsay Street alongside Jason Donovan, and her on-screen husband Scott Robinson when the final episode airs in August.
“Returning to the set was emotional, and it genuinely felt great to see each other,” she explained. “Some of these individuals I have not seen in over 30 years.
“And, you know, life goes on, and we’ve all experienced different things. And merely to be confronted with the fact that this is a part of our history. It was terrific.”
Neighbors, which debuted in Australia in 1985 and arrived in the United Kingdom the following year, were canceled early this year after failing to get new funding when its broadcaster abandoned it.
The internet went into a frenzy when it was announced in April that Minogue and Donovan would reprise their roles, which saw them get married in one of the most famous weddings in soap opera history.
In 1988, the couple released the single Especially For You together.
According to Minogue, Charlene’s homecoming is a “blink and you’ll miss me” moment, but the news has traveled quickly and taken on a “life of its own.”
She stated, about her stint on the soap opera, “I began performing a few years before that, but my big break and the way I became a household name was through Neighbours in 1986, so many years ago.”
On 10 June, the last day of filming occurred, and producers shared a photo of the cast and crew from the last day on set.
After filming concluded, executive producer Jason Herbison revealed that there were tears shed.
“We all knew this day would come, but it was difficult to articulate how we would all feel until we were filming the final scene,” he added.
“Certainly, it is painful, and tears have been shed, but we are also incredibly pleased. Thirty-seven years is a remarkable accomplishment that deserves to be acknowledged.
“We have also been profoundly moved by the response of our viewers around the globe. For many, Neighbours is more than a television program. We feel honored to have been invited into their homes, and I am confident that the legacy of Neighbours will endure for generations to come.”
Guy Pearce (Memento, LA Confidential, Iron Man 3) is also returning for the series finale. Minogue is one of several stars that rose to prominence on the show.
Russell Crowe, Margot Robbie, Holly Valance, Natalie Imbruglia, and Liam Hemsworth are among the celebrities who once resided in the fictitious community of Erinsborough.
