Ryan faced questioning about her previous comments regarding a “predator” during an interview with Louis Theroux last year.
Regarding this matter, she mentioned encountering significant opposition from those curious about the identity of the individual she referred to.
It’s worth noting that Ryan’s Desert Island Discs interview was recorded on September 6, before allegations of sexual misconduct were publicly made against comedian Russell Brand.
While there were rumors linking her remarks to Brand and their 2018 appearance on Comedy Central’s Roast Battle, Ryan has not confirmed this connection and has refrained from commenting on him publicly since the allegations came to light.
In her appearance on Desert Island Discs, Ryan discussed the challenging decision to collaborate with the unnamed comedian, emphasizing the limited options she faced.
She described it as an “extremely difficult” decision, highlighting her belief that this person posed a danger.
Ryan’s approach involved participating but making her disapproval unequivocal, stating that she wouldn’t pretend to be comfortable with his behavior or let him believe she was unaware of it.
She believed that if he was going to be there, she should be too, to express her thoughts.
Ryan noted that the individual didn’t display an “obvious reaction” to her words, while others responded positively.
She acknowledged that some might have questioned her sincerity or viewed it as teasing due to her delivery, but those who know her understood she wasn’t joking.
During her Desert Island Discs episode, Ryan shared insights into her upbringing in a small Canadian community, her family, and her experience of performing stand-up comedy while going through a miscarriage.
She also selected songs for the show, including “Spice Up Your Life” by the Spice Girls and “The Real Slim Shady” by Eminem.
