It is Depp’s first significant acting role since the year 2020 when he was forced to depart the Harry Potter spin-off series Fantastic Beasts after losing his libel case against The Sun newspaper.
Images of Johnny Depp in his first film after the end of his multimillion-dollar defamation suit against ex-wife Amber Heard have surfaced.
Photos feature Depp in regal costume, with a white plumed helmet, white curls, and a black blindfold, for the upcoming French film Jeanne Du Barry, which Why Not Productions is producing.
In June, the 59-year-old actor won the now-infamous legal battle against Heard in the United States.
Depp filed a lawsuit against his ex-wife over an essay she published in The Washington Post in 2018 about her experiences as a survivor of domestic abuse, which, according to his attorneys, unjustly accused him of being an abuser.
After the allegations, the actor’s representatives stated that he had lost career prospects and prominent roles, such as being removed from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
The jury found in his favor following a six-week trial.
Jeanne Du Barry is directed by French filmmaker Maiwenn, and production reportedly began at the end of July following the conclusion of the trial.
It is Depp’s first major role since playing war photojournalist W. Eugene Smith in the 2020 independent film Minamata.
Warner Bros. compelled him to leave the Harry Potter spinoff series Fantastic Beasts in 2020 after he lost his libel suit against The Sun, which had portrayed him as a “wife beater.”
Jeanne Du Barry follows Jeanne, a young woman from the working class who exploits her intelligence and attractiveness to ascend the social order, finally attracting the attention of Louis XV.
The cast reportedly includes Benjamin Lavernhe, Pierre Richard, Melvil Poupaud, Noémie Lvovsky, Pascal Greggory, and India Hair.
