Harvey Weinstein, a former Hollywood producer, is accused of committing indecent assault offenses in the summer of 1996. Prosecutors stated that the accused victim is a lady in her fifties and reminded the court that Weinstein “has the right to a fair trial.”
Harvey Weinstein has been charged with two charges of indecent assault against a lady in London in August 1996 by the Metropolitan Police.
It follows a review of evidence acquired in an investigation of the 70-year-old former Hollywood producer, according to authorities.
Rosemary Ainslie, the head of the Crown Prosecution Service’s special crime branch, said, “The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all parties that criminal proceedings against the defendant are ongoing and that he is entitled to a fair trial.”
The Met Police stated that the alleged crimes occurred between 31 July and 31 August 1996 and that the claimed victim is now in her fifties.
In contrast to some other nations, the United Kingdom has no statute of limitations for rape or sexual assault.
After the CPS authorizes charges, the police must formally charge the suspect before court proceedings may commence.
