Harry Styles was nominated for four Brit Awards, including best album, artist, and pop/R&B act.
The show began with his Grammy-winning song of the year, As It Was.
“I’m aware of my privilege up here today,” he remarked, mentioning Mabel, Florence Welch, Charli XCX, Rina Sawayama, and Becky Hill as women who were overlooked for artist of the year.
Beyonce received international honors for best performer and song of the year. While Wet Leg earned accolades for best group and new performer.
Rhian Teasdale, the lead vocalist of Wet Leg, stated, “This is terrifying because being on television can be such a guys’ club,” adding, “I want to call out all the ladies who worked on our debut record.”
She also mentioned Alex Turner’s 2014 Arctic Monkeys Brits acceptance speech, stating: “This rock and roll will not go. It may occasionally hibernate and sink back into the swamp.”
Both groups are signed to the Domino record label.
This year, there were no women nominated for best artist, following the decision by organizers last year to eliminate best male and best female honors in favor of gender-neutral awards.
Among the eligible women who were not selected were those named by Styles in his address.
Flo, the only black British winner, won the rising star award but did not perform. Their reward was instead announced before the performance.
Styles praised his mother as well as his colleagues One Direction members Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, and Zayn Malik.
Shania Twain, who played with Styles at Coachella the previous year, awarded him the Brit Award for song of the year.
Earlier, she told that the singer’s popularity derives from his “very genuine nature, which people can perceive.”
She stated, “He is pleasant, likable, courteous, and a gentleman.” He is extraordinarily talented; he has everything a fan could desire to admire, follow, and respect.
This is Harry’s home, and we are simply residing here.
It is easy to forget that reality show contestants and former boyband members are typically relegated to the great pop dump, never to be seen again, even though their success may appear inevitable.
When Harry Styles first went solo, his music was overshadowed by his colleagues. Zayn Malik and Liam Payne, in particular, earned bigger and more memorable singles in those early days after One Direction.
On his second album, Fine Line, he delved into the 70s rock sounds of his youth. Including Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, and Paul McCartney. He added his utopian ideology (Treat People With Kindness) and scored his first million-seller with the upbeat and catchy Watermelon Sugar.
His third album enhances this style by incorporating synths from the 1980s and an easygoing intimacy. Music For A Sushi Restaurant’s scat singing and synth horns encapsulate his eccentric charisma. While Boyfriends’ indictment of toxic masculinity is the tune every lady wants Harry to sing to her while he paints her toenails.
Instead of shouting out the hooks like Adele, Styles’ voice is mellow and reserved on his pop album. This makes it less immediate than you may have anticipated, but it grows nicely, like dough in a proofing oven.
It concluded the year as the best-selling album in the United Kingdom, selling nearly 500,000 copies. With figures like these, the commercially-minded Brit Awards could never have ignored Styles.
Beyonce delivered video tributes for her wins because she was unable to attend, saying, “Thank you so much for liking Break my Soul – the whole aim of this song was to dance.
The singer, who won her 32nd Grammy last week, thanked her fans and said, “The renaissance has begun.”
Additionally, Styles won three Grammys, including album of the year.
Although announcer Mo Gilligan incorrectly introduced Lewis Capaldi as “Sam Capaldi,” who performed “Forget Me,” the show ran very smoothly.
After the incident, Gilligan remarked, “I must apologize; that only goes to show how potent the beverages are.”
The presenter noted that “technical issues” required Adele’s I Drink Wine performance from last year’s programme.
This year, Lizzo, Cat Burns, Stormzy, Sam Smith, Ella Henderson, and Becky Hill performed live.
Rapper Aitch won the award for best hip-hop/rap/grime artist and stated, “Not to sound trite, but not many individuals from where I’m from, particularly my side of Manchester, get the chance to stand up here and get such an incredible gift or accolade.”
Adding, “Respect. 0161 in the building,” a reference to Manchester’s area code, he stated that he performs “to set examples and to let others know it’s possible no matter where you’re from.”
Best dancing act for the second year in a row
After her first U.S. tour, Becky Hill won best dance act again.
“I believe Beyonce put it best in her Grammy acceptance speech. We owe the best genre on the planet to the LGBTQ community “She continued.
1975 won their fourth Brit Award for best alternative rock act, and lead vocalist Matty Healy commented. “This one means a lot because it was voted on by the fans.”
The award for best foreign band went to the Irish rock band Fontaines DC, whose guitarist Carlos O’Connell stated: “My heart is bursting… I am pleased to be present for the celebration.
Producer and French DJ David Guetta had already been named producer of the year, but Norman Cook, commonly known as Fatboy Slim, presented him with his prize.
“It is a wonder to have longevity in what we do,” he remarked. “Let’s celebrate!”
