Matthew Perry, known for his role as Chandler Bing on the sitcom Friends, has reportedly drowned at his home.
At the time of his death, Perry was 54 years old.
911 Call and Water Rescue
The Los Angeles Police Department received a 911 call at 4:07 p.m. local time (12:07 a.m. UK time).
A water rescue was conducted at the celebrity’s Pacific Palisades residence in Los Angeles, according to a police source.
The LA Times and TMZ report that Perry passed away in a Jacuzzi or hot tub.
There was no evident foul play, and the cause of death remains unconfirmed. An investigation is underway.
Open About Personal Struggles
Perry was open about his past struggles with alcohol and prescription medication addictions.

His role on the sitcom Friends alongside Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, and David Schwimmer from 1994 to 2004 propelled him to fame.
The popular show followed a close-knit group in New York, with Perry playing the witty Chandler Bing.
In 2021, the program returned for a reunion special.
Approximately one year ago, Perry embarked on a press tour to promote his memoir, “Friends, Lovers, And The Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir.”
In the memoir, he recounted his battles with addiction, including a near-death experience in 2019 due to an opioid-induced colon rupture.
Perry recalled a moment when Aniston confronted him about his intoxication during production.
“I am certain you are intoxicated,” he remembered her saying. “We can smell it,” she added, which he described as “a little strange but sweet.” She went on, “The plural ‘we’ struck me like a sledgehammer.”
Actress Maggie Wheeler, who portrayed Janice Litman-Goralnik, Chandler’s on-and-off fiancée, paid tribute to him on social media.
Author and actress Selma Blair, who appeared in the 1999 films Legally Blonde and Cruel Intentions, described herself as “broken-hearted” and “unconditionally” in love with Perry in a heartfelt letter.
NBC Entertainment, the broadcaster of Friends, confirmed Perry’s passing and expressed deep sadness at his untimely death.
Presenters Piers Morgan and actor Octavia Spencer both paid tribute to Perry.
Perry appeared in several notable films, including the 1997 romantic comedy Fools Rush In opposite Salma Hayek and the 2004 crime comedy The Whole Nine Yards alongside Bruce Willis.
In 2021, he reunited with his Friends co-stars for a special event.

Perry, who was born in Massachusetts and raised in Ottawa, Canada, moved to Los Angeles at the age of 15 to pursue an acting career. He joined the cast of Friends at the age of 24.
