Sir Elton John reportedly has a completely new show scheduled for his Sunday headlining performance at Glastonbury.
The star will perform at the festival as the last stop on his farewell tour of the United Kingdom but warned fans to expect the unexpected.
“I’m beginning with a song I haven’t performed in about ten years,” he told.
“I’ve finalized the set list and scheduled rehearsal dates for the guest artists, so we can only hope for good weather.”
More than five years have passed since Sir Elton announced his 350-date Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
It was originally scheduled to conclude in 2021, giving the 76-year-old more time to spend with his youthful family. However, multiple dates had to be rescheduled due to the Covid pandemic and the singer’s hip injury from last year.
Sir Elton told Radio 1’s Clara Amfo that it “couldn’t be a more perfect ending” than the Glastonbury concert, which concludes his UK tour.
He added that the set list had been altered to maintain the show’s vibrancy.
“This is a different performance than what the audience has been seeing. There are quite a few deep cuts on Farewell Yellow Brick Road; it’s not all hits, and you have to keep people intrigued.
“I always say that putting together a setlist is similar to having intercourse. You start extremely well, then settle down a bit, and then towards the end of the show everything goes to heck”.
Fans hope that Sir Elton’s Glastonbury performance will be comparable to his final U.S. performances at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles last year. These concerts were appropriately opulent affairs, with Dua Lipa, Kiki Dee, and Brandi Carlile as special guests.
The celebrity will bring special guests to Worthy Farm, but he won’t say who they are.
It will be his first performance at the festival, and he admitted it would be his first trip to Glastonbury.
“I’ve watched Glastonbury on television,” he said. “What I adore about Glastonbury is not the headliners per se, but the people they allow shining on the smaller stages.
Thus, I would likely watch a newer musician play in a smaller tent at Glastonbury.
Sir Elton, whose passion for music has never diminished, went on to discuss four of the most exciting new artists.
There were also Olivia Dean, Obongjayar, Joesef, and Nova Twins.
“These girls rock my world,” he proclaimed. “There are so many females out there who are killing it: the Linda Lindas, Wet Leg, and the Nova Twins, who are incredible.
I’m so excited to see them live because, in my opinion, they’re phenomenal.
