David Tennant has stated that he competed with Daniel Craig for the part of James Bond.
Craig has appeared in the last five 007 films, beginning with Casino Royale (2006) and concluding with No Time to Die (2008). (2021).
Tennant revealed on the Acting For Others podcast that he only recently learned that producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson once considered him for the role of the renowned secret service agent.
He stated, “I never believed I had until I recently collaborated with a filmmaker who had previously collaborated with the Broccolis, who confirmed, ‘Yes, you were on the list at the time.’
“I said, ‘What time is it? What are you referring to?’ He responded, “Yes, the last time.”
Before him, I would have been a child.
“I believe it was quite a large list, and I was never even close to the top. However, it would appear so,” the 51-year-old Scottish actor continued.
He pondered what his life might have been like if he got the chance to portray James Bond: This degree of celebrity, I believe, has the potential to revolutionize the game.
Tennant is most recognized for his role as the tenth Time Lord on Doctor Who, which he played from 2005 until the series’ final episode on December 31, 2010.
After joining the popular British science-fiction series, the actor was thrust into the limelight. “It was unlike anything I’d done before in terms of the general public’s awareness of you.
“There’s a whole phenomenon where you’re suddenly in people’s living rooms and they have a sense of ownership over you,” Tennant continued.
“It’s a complex experience, and most of it is extremely pleasant, but there are aspects of it that you can’t predict, in my opinion.”
Tennant and Catherine Tate, who played the Doctor’s companion Donna Noble, will return to Doctor Who in 2019 to coincide with the series’ 60th-anniversary festivities.
Bond fans have speculated for a long time about who will succeed Daniel Craig in the role following his final appearance in No Time to Die, with Rege-Jean Page, Henry Cavill, and James Norton among the favorites.
