Instead of the customary Christmas episode, viewers were treated to a 60-second clip featuring David Tennant, Catherine Tate, and US actor Neil Patrick Harris, who will play the villain when the program returns in the fall.
David Tennant and Catherine Tate appeared in a new trailer for the upcoming season of Doctor Who, marking their 13-year return to the show.
In an unexpected twist at the end of the previous season, Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor regenerated into David Tennant’s Doctor, who portrayed the legendary Time Lord from 2005 to 2010.
Ncuti Gatwa, who was introduced earlier this year as the new Doctor, was highly anticipated to make an appearance.
Instead of the customary Christmas episode, viewers were treated to a 60-second clip featuring Tennant, Tate, and US actor Neil Patrick Harris, who will play the villain when the program returns in the fall of next year.
“We wanted to offer fans, friends, and families a wonderful Christmas gift, along with the promise that 2023 will be a Doctor Who bonanza,” he stated.
In the trailer, we hear and then see a Tardis landing in an alley, along with several monsters and the return of UNIT.
Tate, whose character is Donna Noble, states: “Sometimes I feel that something is lacking. As if I had something great that is now gone.”
Meanwhile, Tennant states, “I no longer know who I am.”
Later, he adds: “I do not believe in fate, but if fate exists, it is headed towards Donna Noble. If she remembers, she will perish.”
Jacqueline King and Karl Collins will reprise their roles as Tate’s on-screen mother Sylvia Noble and her on-screen husband Shaun Temple, respectively, while Years And Years actor Ruth Madeley will play Shirley Anne Bingham.
In addition to Patrick Harris, Breakout Heartstopper actress Yasmin Finney will also appear in the production as Rose “The performance has just begun. Worldwide premiere.”
The series is intended to explain the return of David Tennant’s Doctor, who will appear in three episodes honoring the show’s 60th anniversary next year before Gatwa takes over as the 15th Doctor next Christmas.
He arrives at the end of the trailer, wearing a mustache, and asks, “Can someone just explain what the heck is going on?”
