Between 2011 and 2015, the singer Murs co-hosted two seasons of The Xtra Factor spin-off show with Flack, in addition to one season of the main X Factor show.

Speaking on reality TV star Jamie Laing’s podcast Private Parts, he became emotional as he described the TV host’s tribute to him as a message of support for his 2018 and 2019 concert tours.

He told the podcast presenter as he battled back tears, “I’m doing my best to hold it together.”

In February 2020, Flack, who also presented Love Island and won Strictly Come Dancing in 2014, committed suicide at the age of 40.

Murs, upon reading the line, remarked, “When I first met Olly, it felt like I had met my soulmate. Not in a strange manner, it was like meeting someone I had known my entire life.

“I’ve never laughed as much as I did in 2011 when we co-hosted The Xtra Factor for the first time, and I will never forget that experience.”

Despite feeling emotional, he proceeded to read Flack’s words: “He’s one of the most talented individuals I’ve ever encountered, and he gives everything he does his all.

“Because he keeps the entire team going, I can overlook his dad jokes.”

Murs stated in the podcast interview that he was still digesting the death of his friend nearly three years later.

Speaking of her final years, he remarked, “Knowing the misery she must have been in to take her own life, to hear her say, ‘I’ve never smiled so much as I did in 2011’ was one of the times.

“Only minor details like this…”

Murs stated that after Flack’s death, he would review their past communications and listen to her voice memos, but has since stopped since it made him too upset.

While he claimed to have deleted some texts, he claimed to have preserved certain photographs and fan gifts to remember her.

Murs stated in a memorial to Flack that his heart was “broken forever” after her passing.

In July, he appeared at Flackstock, an event honoring the life of the television personality and donating funds for mental health organizations.
