Big Pokey, whose real name was Milton Powell, appeared to faint or pass out while performing in Beaumont, Texas and subsequently died in the hospital. The rapper was featured on Megan Thee Stallion’s Southside Royalty Freestyle track from the previous year.

An American rapper has passed away after succumbing during a performance.

Milton Powell, aka Big Pokey, fainted Saturday night in Beaumont, Texas.

The 48-year-old male collapsed backward at Pour09 Bar, where rescuers performed CPR.

Powell was transported to the hospital, but he expired on Sunday.

After his death, Powell’s representative said he was “well-liked by his family, his friends, and his devoted fans.”

“Big Pokey will forever be ‘The Hardest Pit In The Litter!'” said the statement, referencing the title of Powell’s debut album.

Powell was also a member of Screwed Up Click, a collective of influential artists from Houston.

He was featured on Megan Thee Stallion’s Southside Royalty Freestyle track from the previous year.

Sylvester Turner, the mayor of Houston, paid tribute to Powell on Twitter, labeling him a “legendary rapper” and offering “prayers and condolences” to his family and friends.

Also other artists have paid tribute to Powell, with rapper Bun B referring to him as “one of Houston’s most naturally talented artists” and a “humble mountain of a man who moved with honor and respect.”

“He was easy to love and hard to hate,” he added.
