In 2016, the couple divorced, with Jolie filing for divorce barely five days after the alleged abuse incident on the plane. Now, the claims have surfaced in a dispute over a French vineyard.
Angelina Jolie alleged in new court documents that Brad Pitt was “emotionally and physically violent” towards her and her children.
In September 2016, Jolie claimed a series of violent occurrences occurred aboard a flight, which ultimately led to her filing for divorce.
The charges, which Pitt vehemently denied at the time, were initially made during a custody struggle and have now resurfaced in a cross-complaint filed by Jolie as part of the former couple’s continuing legal dispute over the sale of their jointly-owned vineyard in the south of France.
Even though the allegations were made at the time of the divorce, they were included in a redacted FBI report.
A spokesman for Pitt, who was not authorized to speak publicly, vehemently refuted Jolie’s charges and called it “another rehash that does nothing but harm to the family.”
In filings filed on Wednesday, the 47-year-old woman claims Pitt verbally assaulted her and lunged at one of his six children.
“Throughout the long overnight journey, Pitt was physically and emotionally violent to Jolie and their then-eight to fifteen-year-old children,” according to court records.
“After that flight, for the sake of her family, Jolie filed for divorce.”
Pitt ‘choked’ one of his children before ‘pouring red wine and beer’ on them.
They allege that Pitt’s “aggressive behavior” began before the flight, but that he “choked” one of his children and “hit another in the face” when they attempted to defend each other.
“A few of the children begged Pitt to stop. They were all terrified. Many were in tears “the submitting states
According to the affidavits, Pitt maintained his hostile behavior, cursing at his family and at one time “pouring beer and red wine on the children.”
After landing, the actor allegedly prevented his family from exiting the aircraft and assaulted one of his children again.
Five days after the alleged event, Jolie filed for divorce and the FBI initiated an investigation, but no action was deemed necessary against Pitt.
The ongoing controversy over Chateau Miraval
After a closed-door trial when the charges were revealed, the judge granted Pitt joint custody of the children.
In response to a petition from Jolie, an appeals court subsequently disqualified the private judge for failing to disclose potential conflicts of interest, thereby nullifying the verdict.
The Oscar-winning actors were one of Hollywood’s most recognized couples for 12 years and had been together for a decade before their 2014 wedding.
A judge declared their single in 2019, but a fight remained over the sale of the couple’s shares in Chateau Miraval SA, a French firm with a residence and vineyard in the south of France.
Pitt previously accused Jolie of engineering a “hostile” takeover of the wine company he had “painstakingly established” and forced him into a partnership with “a stranger with terrible associations and ambitions.”
The couple purchased the Miraval estate in the village of Correns in southeastern France for approximately €25 million (£20,800,000) in 2008.
According to the legal paperwork, Pitt paid 60% of the purchase price while Jolie donated the remaining 40%.
Custody and financial issues remain unsettled in the unresolved divorce proceeding.
