Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan are among the celebrities who will reprise their roles on Neighbours when the show’s final episodes air later this summer. The production of the soap opera has concluded, with producers claiming that tears were shed when the final camera stopped rolling.
After 37 years, the cast and crew of Neighbours have bid farewell to Ramsay Street, with producers releasing a farewell shot after filming the final scene.
The Australian soap opera, which debuted in 1985, will air its final episodes in August, having been canceled earlier this year.
Fan-favorite characters like Karl and Susan Kennedy, Paul Robinson, and Jarrod “Toadfish” Rebecchi may be seen in a photograph from the final day of filming on the Neighbours set.
Scott and Charlene Robinson, portrayed by Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue, are not included in the image but have been confirmed to appear in the series’ final episodes, alongside several other familiar Erinsborough faces. Their wedding in 1987 remains one of the most iconic sequences from the soap opera, with millions of viewers tuning in to watch the couple say “I do.”
Although the series has lost viewers in recent years, it has always been popular in the United Kingdom as the brighter cousin of its British counterparts.
Jason Herbison, the show’s executive producer, stated that tears were shed after filming concluded.
“We all knew this day would come, but it was difficult to articulate how we would all feel until we were filming the final scene,” he added.
“Of course it’s painful, and tears have been shed, but we’re also tremendously pleased. Thirty-seven years is a remarkable accomplishment that deserves to be acknowledged.
“We have also been profoundly moved by the response from our viewers around the globe. For many, Neighbours is more than a television program. We feel honored to have been invited into their homes, and I am confident that the legacy of Neighbours will last for many years.
Neighbors has chronicled the lives of those residing and working in the fictitious Melbourne suburb of Erinsborough, launching the careers of Margot Robbie, Russell Crowe, Natalie Imbruglia, Guy Pearce, Liam Hemsworth, Holly Valance, Kylie Minogue, and Jason Donovan, among others.
Pearce, who began his career as Mike Young on the serial opera, is among the returning stars reprising their roles for the finale and has posted images of previous reunions with the cast and crew.
Peter O’Brien, who starred in the show’s inaugural episode as Shane Ramsay, Ian Smith, whose character Harold Bishop famously returned from the dead, Mark Little, who portrayed Joe Mangel, and Paul Keane, who played Des Clarke, are all among the 1980s cast members returning.
Daniel MacPherson (Joel Samuels), Benjamin McNair (Malcolm Kennedy), Melissa Bell (Lucy Robinson), and Lesley Baker are stars from the 1990s (Angie Rebecchi).
Chris Milligan (Kyle Canning), Morgan Baker (Callum Rebecchi), and James Mason (Chris Pappas) are among those returning from the 2000s, along with Natalie Bassingthwaighte as Izzy Hoyland, who notoriously had an affair with Dr. Karl.
Pippa Black, who portrayed Elle Robinson, and Jordan Patrick Smith, who portrayed Andrew Robinson, will also reprise their roles.
Olympia Valance reprises her role as Paige Smith in the most recent season, alongside Jodi Anasta as Elly Conway, Zoe Cramond as Amy Williams, and Kate Kendall as Lauren Turner.
Also appearing will be Ben Hall as Ned Willis, Olivia Junkeer as Yashvi Rebecchi, and Zima Anderson as Roxy Willis.
Neighbors will halt production in June, it was reported earlier this year since the show has been unable to secure new funding since being dumped by its network.
