Adele claims that the “brutal” response to her decision to postpone her Las Vegas performances left her a “shell of a person” for several months.
Some fans complained that they had spent thousands of dollars to travel to Las Vegas for shows that were canceled just 24 hours before opening night, and new dates have not yet been set.
The singer was scheduled to perform a series of concerts at Caesars Palace from January to April of this year, but they were canceled 24 hours before the first show.
The 34-year-old posted a tearful video apology on social media, explaining that her team had been “absolutely destroyed by delivery delays and COVID.
However, some fans complained that they had spent thousands of dollars to travel to Las Vegas for the shows, and new dates for Adele’s residency have not yet been announced.
She told Lauren Laverne, the host: “I feared disappointing them and believed I could pull it together and make it work, but I couldn’t.
“I stand by this choice. I believe no other artist would have done what I did, and I believe that is why the story was so enormous.
“I won’t put on a show simply because I have to, because people will be disappointed, or because we will lose a lot of money. I’m like, “The show is inadequate.”
She went on: “However, it was horrible, and the response was violent. I was a mere shell of a human being for several months.”
Adele, when asked how she handled the fallout from the announcement, responded: “I had to simply wait it out and grieve. Simply mourn the shows and let go of your guilt. However, it was cruel.”
The same weekend Adele was featured on Desert Island Discs, she performed two sold-out concerts in Hyde Park as part of the British Summer Time festival.
She discussed her estranged relationship with her alcoholic father, Mark Evans, whom she reconciled shortly before his 2021 death from cancer.
She stated, “A few years ago when I learned that he was ill, I immediately received a phone call and drove there. When I went to see him, it was difficult, but also one of the greatest moments of my life in a positive way.
“I reconciled with him when I learned he was ill. And we got along really well, which was fantastic but also sad because he was so hilarious.
“I don’t remember him being so funny when I was younger. But it was very pleasant. We laughed, spread rumors, and shed tears. It was beneficial to both of us.
The singer, who has a son named Angelo with her ex-husband Simon Konecki, stated that she desires to have additional children with her current boyfriend, American sports agent Rich Paul.
She said: “I would love to have a couple more children. It would be fantastic if we could. If not, I have got Angelo. I only wish for happiness.”
Adele’s Desert Island Discs selections included Gabrielle’s Dreams, Nina Simone’s He Needs Me, and Destiny’s Child’s Bills, Bills, Bills.
