- Tributes Pour In for Jamie Crick, a Mentor and Friend to Many
Jamie Crick, known for his appearances on Jazz FM, Classic FM, and Scala Radio, has passed away at the age of 57.
Mr. Crick spent twenty years on Classic FM beginning in 1994 before moving to Jazz FM, where he hosted the morning program and later the afternoon drivetime.
He also hosted a show on sister station Scala Radio and, as creative director, helped establish the UK’s first LGBT+ station Gaydar Radio in 2001.
A representative for Jazz FM and Scala Radio stated that he would be “greatly missed.”
“Jamie Crick was a broadcaster through and through and played an integral role on our radio stations,” they said, adding that he was a “great friend” to his coworkers.
“Our radio stations have a large void to fill and will pay tribute accordingly shortly. However, while they all come to terms with Jamie’s untimely death, they will continue to transmit the music he cherishes every day in his memory.
“Our deepest condolences are with his family and loved ones at this time.”
On Monday, Mr. Crick hosted his final Jazz FM afternoon program. His family, according to Bauer Media, reported that he perished after a brief illness.
Simon Bates, a fellow DJ, was among those paying tribute, writing, “So very sorry to hear of Jamie Crick’s passing. When I first began working at Classic FM, Jamie was a source of encouragement, compassion, and humor.
“He gave me my first position in radio, and his wisdom, counsel, and unwavering support have shaped me in ways I cannot adequately describe. Forever grateful for the shared experiences and lessons learned.”
