This week, the Prince and Princess of Wales will embark on a three-day journey to the United States that will conclude on Friday with the presentation of the awards he established to develop and scale up environmental solutions to repair the planet.
Eilish, who is outspoken about climate change, will be the featured performer at the ceremony in Boston, which will also feature Annie Lennox, Ellie Goulding, and Beyonce’s protégés Chloe x Halle.
A royal source stated, “The reward has become the prince’s Super Bowl moment of the year, and he looks forward to continuing to use the platform each year to shine a light on some of the most influential projects doing remarkable things to rescue the future of our planet.”
Among the 15 finalists competing for the £1 million awarded to each of the five category winners of the Earth shot Prize are a Kenyan attempt to create cleaner-burning stoves and a Dutch bubble barrier to prevent the garbage from entering oceans.
For the first time, there are also finalists from the United Kingdom, with two British entries picked.
As an alternative to single-use plastic, Pierre Paslier and Rodrigo Garcia Gonzalez’s London-based startup Notpla Hard Material manufactures packaging from seaweed and plants.
Already, it has created over a million biodegradable takeout food containers for Just Eat.
Low Carbon Materials, situated in County Durham, uses non-recyclable plastic trash to create carbon-free versions of conventional concrete blocks.
The royal source stated, “Inclusion is essential to the mission of Earth shot. This year’s nominees are from all parts of the globe, displaying the pinnacle of human creativity. From indigenous leadership in Australia to female-led solutions in Kenya, the prize is centered on diverse narratives and solutions.
In Boston, the prince and princess will meet with Boston-based indigenous leaders. Inclusivity will play a significant role in the broader tour.
Sir David Attenborough will narrate the introduction of the event, while Cate Blanchett, an Oscar-winning actress and member of the Earth shot judging panel, will narrate a retrospective of last year’s winners.
Rami Malek, who portrayed Freddie Mercury in the film Bohemian Rhapsody, will give an award at the MGM Music Hall alongside Catherine O’Hara from Home Alone and Shailene Woodley, an environmental campaigner and activist.
Malek stated, “The 15 candidates for the Earth shot Prize this year are profoundly motivating. They are devoting their lives to developing solutions that will restore our world, and I cannot wait to present one of the 2022 Winners with an award.
Lennox stated, “The urgent need to conserve and restore our planet’s degraded natural systems is crucial to human survival in the future.” The Earth shot Prize’s mission is significant in terms of creating a waste-free planet and revitalizing our oceans. I am consequently privileged to contribute my support to this noble endeavor.”
