Among the casualties, three valiant firefighters lost their lives while battling the fierce blaze. In addition, rescue teams are in a race against the clock to locate four unaccounted-for factory workers and one firefighter.

The injured, numbering over 100, have been swiftly transported to hospitals for medical attention. President Tsai Ing-wen of Taiwan conveyed her heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and announced her plans to visit the affected area. Focus Taiwan, a local news outlet, reported her commitment to support those impacted, with the Pingtung County government establishing an emergency operation center to provide assistance.

While investigations are still ongoing to determine the cause of the fire, Chou Chun-mi, the magistrate of Pingtung County, expressed her profound sorrow after visiting the funeral home and meeting with grieving families. Preliminary assessments suggest that natural gas may have played a role in the tragic explosions, which occurred as firefighters bravely fought to extinguish the flames.

This devastating incident has left a deep scar on the hearts of the affected families and the nation as a whole, as Taiwan comes to terms with this tragic loss.
