According to supermarkets, some Easter merchandise is available since some people like to shop early.
Supermarkets began selling Easter eggs in December despite the holiday not occurring until April 9 this year, citing shoppers’ desire to purchase in advance.
Major stores, including Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, and Waitrose, have introduced Easter eggs lines, causing social media users to express surprise.
Even before the new year, shelves at major supermarkets were stocked with a selection of eggs.
Some customers were amused and posted photographs of their egg purchases, while others were upset.
According to supermarkets, this is nothing out of the usual.
Sainsbury’s stated: “Every year, we stock up on seasonal items in anticipation of the holiday season. This is because some customers choose to purchase gifts and things with a longer shelf life in advance, or to pamper themselves early.”
Tesco stated that the reason was that consumers prefer to buy in advance.
A spokesperson stated, “It will be a few weeks before customers have access to our entire assortment of Easter products.” “However, we are aware that some of our customers prefer to purchase their Easter eggs early, therefore we have begun selling a limited quantity in some of our locations.”
Additionally, Waitrose, Morrisons, Marks & Spencer, and Asda were contacted for comment.
