US authorities say that in a “death note” left on his phone, Andre Bing stated that his acts were not premeditated, but rather that he had been driven by Satan.
Police believe the gunman in the Virginia Walmart massacre left a “death note” addressed to God on his phone.
NBC reported that Andre Bing, 31, wrote in a meandering message provided by the Chesapeake Police Department on Friday that his acts were not premeditated, but rather that he was driven by Satan.
Bing said that he had disregarded the Holy Spirit’s guidance.
Tuesday’s incident at a US supermarket resulted in six fatalities and four further injuries.
Bing also stated in the letter that he had lost his dignity after his phone was hacked.
He said that he was wrongly likened to serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer and that he would have never killed anyone who entered his home.
He requested God’s forgiveness for what he was about to do before signing off.
The note was discovered, according to a police statement, when “detectives conducted a forensic study of the suspect’s phone, which was found at the scene.”
The motive for the shooting remains unknown, according to police, and the force was unable to determine when the note was written.
Walmart issued the following statement: “There is no justification for sacrificing innocent life.”
Our attention remains on the bereaved families and on assisting our employees during this difficult period.
Walmart reported that Bing has been an overnight team leader for the company since 2010.
According to police, the 9mm handgun used in the Tuesday night incident was legally acquired that morning, and Bing has no prior criminal record.
Officers shared a copy of the memo recovered on his phone in which the names of particular individuals he named appeared to have been redacted.
Bing was found dead at the scene of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
On Monday, a vigil for the shooting victims will be placed in City Park in Chesapeake.
