In the event that Santa’s sleigh unexpectedly malfunctions on Christmas Eve, he would be better off borrowing the daring and impressive new EV9 family SUV from Kia.
The signature electric model in question exudes an air of sophistication while remaining distinctly modern. It is mesmerizing in motion, as I have personally observed, and appears enormous, particularly when compared to one’s height.
The forward-thinking Korean automotive manufacturer has gained an advantage over its British counterpart, Range Rover, in the twenty-first century by introducing an all-electric model to the market first.
I was operating the highest-end GT-Line S model, which featured integrated pop-out door handles and seven standard seats. There is thus ample space for passengers. Furthermore, additional cargo space is available for gifts.
It features custom ‘My Drive’ driving mode settings, eco, normal, spirited sporty, and all-wheel drive, as well as off-road terrain modes for navigating snow, dirt, and sand. Therefore, a white Christmas will not occur.
Alternative specification levels include the entry-level Air (two-wheel drive with a comparatively modest 200 bhp electric motor) and the GT-Line (all-wheel drive). Each contains seven seats.
Driving it is an absolute pleasure and a breeze, with no sense of intimidation. The intelligent dashboard and interior are clutter-free, modern, and relatively straightforward to navigate alongside the 12.3-inch central digital interface.
Driving the EV9: Safety, Power, and Opulence
My EV9 was outfitted with safety equipment. My preference is the rear camera configuration that projects a live feed of the blind spot in the direction of the turn onto the dashboard when the driver indicates a turn. It is also forceful and swift, in addition to being agile.
My GT-Line S with its 19-inch wheels accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 5.3 seconds and has a maximum speed of 124 mph; its twin electric motors produce 378 horsepower. Despite having a weight of 3.24 tonnes, it possesses a range of 313 miles.
One caveat, however, is the price. It cost me £76,025 to transport my EV9. The initial price point is £64,995.
It is an ostentatiously luxurious bundle that is subtly premium.
A six-seater option featuring swivel chairs designed in the manner of lounges is also offered with my highest-end model. The range of the two-wheel drive model with a single motor is 349 miles.

There is yet another significant advantage. Van drivers and drivers of other large vehicles (yes, BMW and Audi drivers, I’m looking at you) are somewhat intimidated and less likely to “take you on” or harass you due to the vehicle’s size. The large footprint, as taxi drivers put it, gives it “muscle.” This is an experience I have personally had.
A fast-charger allows for a 24-minute charge.
