Tesla is recalling slightly over 41,000 vehicles in the United States due to a potential problem with the power steering.

The electric vehicle maker owned by Elon Musk warns that the power-steering assist technology may malfunction on uneven roads or after hitting a pothole.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stated that it could necessitate a greater steering effort, especially at low speeds, hence increasing the likelihood of collisions.

Tesla has published a system-recalibrating software upgrade.

It stated that it was unaware of any injuries or fatalities associated with the issue.

However, 314 vehicle notifications for US vehicles that may be affected by the recall have been issued.

The recall affects Model S and Model X automobiles from 2017 through 2021.

Tesla reported that more than 97% of the recalled vehicles have already installed a fix for the issue.

Separately, Tesla is recalling 53 2021 Model S external side rear-view mirrors manufactured for the European market that do not meet American “rear visibility” standards.

Tesla has issued 17 recall notifications for 3.4 million vehicles in 2022.

In September, the company recalled almost 1.1 million vehicles in the United States due to windows that could close too quickly and pinch people’s fingers.

Twitter’s impact

After acquiring Twitter, Mr. Musk reportedly collaborated with Tesla software experts to examine the social media platform’s inner workings.

However, it appears that his other business operations are having a knock-on effect, as Tesla investors continue to liquidate stock.

Monday in New York, its shares closed 5% lower at $197.08 (£172.41), the lowest level since June 2021.

Investors may be concerned that the billionaire has gotten preoccupied with his most recent acquisition and is giving less attention to his other businesses.
