In addition to the extended offer of half-price electricity during winter, British Gas customers can also save on Christmas Day.

During summer, the energy provider launched the PeakSave Sundays promotion to encourage customers to reduce evening power consumption beyond peak hours.

It declared that the offer would extend throughout winter, including Christmas and New Year’s Eve. The scheme has been certified to continue until February 28, 2024.

British Gas additionally declared its intention to provide electricity at a reduced price on December 25 via the initiative above.

On Sundays, when industrial and commercial demand is lower, the power grid is supplied with more renewable energy, reducing the necessity to consume fossil fuels.

British Gas Energy’s managing director, Catherine O’Kelly, remarked, “The upcoming months will bring colder temperatures and the joy of the holiday season.”

“As we are aware that many individuals will be spending more time at home during this time, especially on Christmas Day, we wished to assist our customers in reducing their energy expenses and contributing to a greener grid.”

Customers will be granted a 50% reduction on all electricity consumption from 11 am to 4 pm on Sundays.

The initiative is open to new and existing consumers, but requires a smart metre and half-hourly measurements. A credit for all savings will be applied to customers’ energy invoices.

According to British Gas, £2.5 million has been paid to 425,000 consumers for adjusting their energy consumption to off-peak hours.

O’Kelly stated, “As residential energy consumption rises during winter, we anticipate that the value of these savings will increase, and we hope to entice an even greater number of clients to join the PeakSave programme to benefit from the savings.”
