Apple has stated that it will have an event on September 7 at its offices in California, when the new iPhone 14 series is widely anticipated to be unveiled.

The ‘Far Out’ event, which will take place at 10 am PT (6 pm BST / 1 pm ET), may also reveal the Apple Watch Series 8 for the first time.

According to rumors, the next iPhone 14 will have a larger camera, a screen without a notch, and an always-on display that will display ‘fast glanceable’ information before it is opened.

Purple is anticipated as a “fun” color choice, replacing pink for the basic iPhone 13 and Sierra Blue for the iPhone 13 Pro.

Apple confirms September 7 'Far Out' event to showcase iPhone 14 with a larger camera, notch-free display, and a new PURPLE option - but rumors claim it could cost 15% more.

Due to significant inflation, it is rumored that the new devices would cost more than 15 percent more than the existing iPhone 13 models.

Thus, the least expensive iPhone 14 model would cost £895, the iPhone 14 Pro would begin at £1,091, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max would cost a minimum of £1,206.

The Apple Watch Series 8 is anticipated to contain a flat display and new health capabilities, such as a blood-pressure monitor, a fertility thermometer, sleep tracking, sleep apnea detection, and diabetes detection.

Some have speculated that the starry Apple logo on Wednesday’s invitations may signal that the forthcoming smartphone’s camera would have an astrophotography function.

Others assert that it is a hint that the iPhone 14 will support direct satellite connection, a function that has been rumored since 2021. This could enable users to contact emergency assistance in areas without cellphone connectivity.

Far Out

Although Apple is notoriously secretive about new products, here’s all we know about the iPhone 14 so far.

Bigger and better camera

As usual, it seems probable that the next iPhone models will include camera enhancements.

Last year, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo told MacRumors that the iPhone 14 Pro models will feature a 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera and the ability to record 8K video.

This is a significant upgrade over the 12-megapixel cameras in the iPhone 13 Pro versions. However, ordinary iPhone 14 handsets will not be eligible for upgrades.

According to leaked specifications given to Twitter by renowned tipster Max Weinbach, the size of the camera bulge on all incoming smartphones may rise.

According to the leaked specifications, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will have a square camera bump measuring 1.44 inches by 1.5 inches (36.73mm by 38.21mm) – slightly larger than the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max.

According to the source, the camera lenses themselves would protrude 0.16 inches (4.17mm) on both the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, compared to 0.14 inches (3.6mm) on the iPhone 13 models.

Some smartphone enthusiasts dislike protruding camera components because they necessitate an oversized smartphone case to prevent them from being damaged.

Due to the increased size of the camera bump, an iPhone 13 Pro Max case will not fit an iPhone 14, Pro Max.

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the front-facing camera will have a larger aperture to let more light into the lens and produce photographs with greater detail.

Supposedly, it will have enhanced autofocus capabilities for video calls.

Not a notch

Since the release of the iPhone X in 2017, Apple’s smartphones have had a large black “notch” at the top of the screen.

The divisive black bar that houses the front-facing cameras and Faces ID technology has been criticized for resembling a receding hairline for males.

In addition, it consumes the display and is particularly distracting when watching movies or playing video games.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo first reported the elimination of the notch in March 2021, but since then, information about its replacement has evolved.

In February, the Chinese social media site Weibo published a diagram that appears to depict two cutouts that will replace the notch.

The cutout on the left contains the front camera, Face ID infrared camera, and potentially other components, whilst the cutout on the right contains the Face ID dot projector.

Ross Young, a display analyst, disclosed that a portion of the Face ID hardware may be relocated beneath the display, thereby reducing the size requirements for the cutouts.

It is believed that these innovations will be exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro models, while the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max will continue to feature the notch.

Colors

According to a rumor posted by Weibo in April, all four iPhone 14 models may be available in a purple hue with a light-dependent hue shift.

Thus, the iPhone 14 and 14 Max may come in black, white, blue, red, and purple, while the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max may be available in graphite, gold, silver, and purple.

The color, according to Apple insider Jioriku on Twitter, replaces the pink of the ordinary iPhone 13 models and the Sierra Blue of the iPhone 13 Pro models.

Body design

MySmartPrice, an Indian technology news website, unveiled the most recent renders of the bodies of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max models in March.

These appeared identical to the previous iPhone 13, with flat edges, a notch on the front display, and a camera hump with a diagonal lens arrangement.

According to MacRumours, photographs of prototype molds for the four future iPhone 14 models have been posted on Weibo, suggesting that the new models would be slightly larger than their predecessors.

These are the iPhone 14 (6.1 inches), the iPhone 14 Pro (6.1 inches), the iPhone 14 Max (6.7 inches), and the iPhone 14 Pro Max (6.7 inches).

The 6.7-inch iPhone is replacing the 4-inch iPhone small, as dismal sales have prompted the tech titan to discontinue that brand.

In July of 2012, iPhoneWired reported that a JP Morgan Chase research indicated that the chassis enclosing the glass would also be made of titanium.

This material is exclusive to Apple Watches and is tougher, more scratch- and corrosion-resistant than steel or aluminum.

According to recent Tweets from Jioriku, this concept was abandoned since it was too “difficult to work with” and “not cost-effective.”

The iPhone 14 range may also lack a physical SIM card slot, indicating that it would only accept eSIM.

The eSIM enables the addition of phone plans to a device without the use of a physical SIM card, and eSIM capabilities were enabled on some iPhone 13 models.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple has informed major network providers to prepare for the release of an eSIM-only iPhone this year, although the transition may be gradual.

Rapid Chips

Ming-Chi Kuo has reported that the regular iPhone 14 models are likely to continue using the A15 chip debuted with the iPhone 13 lineup.

However, the iPhone 14 Pro models may receive a speedier A16 chip, marking the first time that only the Pro models of an iPhone series feature an updated chip.

This may have been affected by the continuing supply concerns at TSMC, a chip maker in Taiwan.

Improved refresh rate and “Always-On”

Ross Young has also speculated that the iPhone 14 Pro variants will include ProMotion technology.

This will allow the display to automatically refresh at 120Hz, providing for more fluid scrolling and content presentation.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, an Apple insider, reportedly revealed in May that the next Pro smartphones will feature an always-on display option similar to Apple Watch.

Before the phone is unlocked, the screen will display a little quantity of “fast glanceable” information.

Such a feature would be analogous to Android phones that display time and battery life on a dark screen to conserve power.

Essential Features

According to the Wall Street Journal, an automobile crash detection technology is scheduled for 2022, thus it may be incorporated into the upcoming iPhone series.

In the event of a collision, the device’s sensors will detect an increase in gravitational force and then automatically contact emergency authorities.

It is rumored to be an enhancement of the accelerometer-based Fall Detection capability presently available on Apple Watches and iPhones.

It is widely believed that the iPhone 14s is equipped with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon X65 modem, which enables satellite communication.

Bloomberg reported last year that Apple intends to employ satellites to enable iPhone users to send texts in emergency scenarios when there is no signal or WiFi connection.

Using the satellites, they will also be able to report collisions or fires to the emergency services if necessary.

These features are still in the development phase, but they could be implemented this year.

What will the cost be?

Recent iPhone 14 leaks indicate that Apple will increase pricing, however, opinions differ as to how much and for which models.

Ming-Chi Kuo claimed in recent tweets that the average selling price of the iPhone 14 series will increase by around 15% compared to the iPhone 13 series.

Kuo notes that the average selling price for iPhone 14 models will be between $1,000 and $1,050 ‘owing to two iPhone 14 Pro price increases and a greater proportion of shipments’

Customers may anticipate paying approximately $150 extra on average for an iPhone 14 compared to an iPhone 13 – one of the largest price increases in iPhone history.
