  • 58% report mobile banking issues
  • TSB working to resolve the problem

It’s one of the most widely used banking apps in the UK.

However, TSB’s app is experiencing troubles this morning, leaving many Britons unable to access their accounts.

According to Down Detector, the outage began at about 07:30 BST and affected consumers throughout the UK.

TSB has now recognized the situation, tweeting: ‘We apologize that some of our customers are having difficulty accessing our services this morning.

‘Our teams are working to get this resolved.’

So far, over 2,100 issues have been reported on Down Detector.

Of those who reported problems, 58% claimed they had trouble with mobile banking, and 28% said it was with online banking.

The remaining 14 per cent reported difficulty with a mobile login.

While TSB says it is attempting to rectify the problem, numerous people have gone to X (previously Twitter) to express their dissatisfaction.

‘Really, @TSB, How am I supposed to transfer money? One consumer remarked that you are the worst at banking online and using the app.

Another user said, “I see the @TSB mobile app is doing what it does, but it is not working again!”

‘This has to be the worst online banking experience ever. Constant troubles and problems.

‘Time to switch banks. I can’t deal with this mess any longer.

And one yelled: ‘@TSB, what is going on? I have invoices to pay, and it appears that not only is the app down again but I am now being told that I do not have any accounts!!!

TSB has not elaborated on the cause of the outage.

However, banking app and website troubles are frequently caused by software updates, upgrades, or hardware component failures.

Andrew Hagger, founder of MoneyComms, states, “All software updates should go through a strictly controlled change management system and only be put live after being tested on non-live or development versions of the website.”

‘It could even be a problem with database space availability. However, this should be regularly monitored as part of routine IT service management maintenance checks.

‘Inefficient legacy IT systems can pose problems, especially when institutions consolidate and have multiple hardware and operating systems that could be more frictionless.

‘Cyber-attacks have the potential to disrupt services; nonetheless, the security of bank IT systems is critical and is taken very seriously by individual banks and regulators.’
