After a white mist began to appear, residents near a chemical facility were advised to keep their windows and doors closed.

South Wales Police issued the warning following the incident at Dow’s facility in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan.
Firefighters responded with multiple crews and gave the same advice as police.

Dinas Powys, Sully, and Penarth residents have been informed that they can now open their doors and windows.

The fire service issued an all-clear message on X, formerly known as Twitter.

According to Jon Darke, who lives in Palmerston, Barry, about a mile from the facility, the alarms are often tested every Monday at 3 pm. However, hearing it on Saturday indicates that something is going on.

The 69-year-old claimed he could hear it for miles.

The site, previously known as Dow Corning, has produced silicone since 1952. Around 630 people work there.

A Dow representative confirmed a chemical leak.

She continued: “The cause of the release was quickly identified and contained and at 16:50 BST, the all-clear signal was given and shared with the community.”No injuries have been reported on the site or in the surrounding communities.

The company will investigate the reason for the release and devise preventative steps to avoid similar incidents in the future.
