The Hollywood star, a three-time Oscar winner for the best actor whose breakthrough picture was 2009’s The Hangover, stated that he turned to booze and drugs after breaking his Achilles tendon and quitting the American action series Alias, from which he “was fired or quit”.

Cooper, 47, stated on the Smartless podcast that he was “completely depressed” during this point in his life, but that he is grateful he dealt with these challenges when he was younger and before the height of his celebrity.

Regarding the early 2000s, the actor told podcast hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett, “I was so lost, and I was also hooked to cocaine.”

Cooper explained that Arnett, who was married to his buddy and co-star from Wet Hot American Summer, Amy Poehler, helped him realize he was on a self-destructive road when the two attended a party together.

According to Arnett, he acted like a “genuine a**hole” on the occasion.

Cooper stated, “That was the first moment I realized I had a problem with drugs and alcohol, and Will told me, and I’ll never forget that.”

Speaking about his struggles with addiction before becoming a national figure, the celebrity stated: “I will admit that I did benefit from this happening when I was 29.

So, at the age of 29, it wasn’t until [The] Hangover – I was 36 when I made The Hangover – that fame played a daily role in my existence.

Cooper portrayed Phil in the critically acclaimed comedy and its two sequels.

He stated that he is “still working on self-esteem” even now, but that between the ages of 29 and 34, he was “at least able to stand in front of someone and breathe, listen, and speak”.

Cooper, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his roles in Silver Linings Playbook, American Sniper, and A Star Is Born, also discussed the delights of being a father to Lea, his 2017-born daughter with ex-girlfriend Irina Shayk.

“The fact that I get to be a father to a great human being brings out the best in everything.

It is simply the coolest thing ever.

During the conversation, Bradley Cooper played an audio clip of his daughter singing Baha Men’s Who Let The Dogs Out, which appears in the first Hangover film. This prompted him to text his co-stars Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms, “Hangover 4, let’s do it!”
