According to the Met Office, it arrived during the coldest portion of the night, and low pressure provided it with “more energy” than computer models had predicted.

The winter season began with snowfall over the first weekend of spring.

After temperatures hovered just above freezing on Friday evening, Saturday awoke residents in Bristol to 4–5 centimeters of snow.

Early Saturday morning, the Met Office issued yellow warnings for portions of Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, and Wiltshire.

This was partly done to alert emergency services to the impending snowfall at the M4 and M5 interchange north of Bristol.

According to Met Office forecaster Simon Partridge, a “little more snow than anticipated” fell, which ultimately settled in portions of South Wales and the broader South West.

As highway cameras captured images of snow on the network of motorways, the Highways Agency issued a warning advising motorists to allow additional time for their trips.

Mr. Partridge added that the flurries formed during the frigid hours of the night due to low pressure, which provided “more energy” than computer models had predicted.

It is not exceptional to experience snow at this time of year; in March, snowfall is common, according to Mr. Partridge.

Although the proverbial saying is that Easter is less likely to experience snowfall than Christmas, there is some truth to that.

The “unpredictable weather continues” due to snowfall, according to Mr. Partridge, although drier conditions are anticipated in the coming days.

On social media, 55-year-old administrator Ian Archard shared an image of his snowy garden in Mangotsfield, close to Bristol.

He stated that it is still thrilling to discover snow when he awakens in the morning. This experience transports me to my youth.

Amanda Holland uploaded an image to Monmouthshire’s Tintern featuring snow-covered trees accompanied by the caption, “Good morning, snowy surroundings.”
