  • Enninful exits as Vogue editor
  • Final cover features 40 women
  • Advocates for diversity, inclusion

In addition to Oprah Winfrey and Jane Fonda, the magazine’s cover features these celebrities as Enninful, the publication’s inaugural black editor, relinquishes his position.

Forty women, including tennis icon Serena Williams and UK supermodel Kate Moss, grace the final cover of British Vogue by Edward Enninful. Additionally, the list includes Victoria Beckham, Oprah Winfrey, Naomi Campbell, and Miley Cyrus.

Enninful, a Ghanaian-British individual and the inaugural black editor of the preeminent fashion publication, declared his intention to vacate his current position in order to assume a recently established role beginning this year.

Enninful’s Star-Studded Final Vogue

For his farewell photograph as editor-in-chief, the 51-year-old has assembled forty notable women, such as Salma Hayek, Jodie Comer, and Jane Fonda, among others.

In addition to Anya Taylor-Joy, the Queen’s Gambit heroine, and singer Rina Sawayama, Christy Turlington, a fashion model, Jameela Jamil, a TV presenter and actress, and Maya Jama, the host of Love Island, are also featured.

Laverne Cox, an actress from Orange Is The New Black, Cindy Crawford, a British model and actress Cara Delevingne, and Dua Lipa, a vocalist, are among the other well-known women to appear.

British Vogue posted an Instagram video that captured the forty women who were present for the video.

Enninful declared, “Therefore, after six and a half years and 153 cover stars, including the forty legendary women featured on this cover, this is my 76th and final edition of Vogue.”

It has also been an utter honour and a truly extraordinary journey.

“As I commence my new position as Condé Nast’s global creative and cultural adviser for Vogue, I am resolute in my commitment to continue advocating for the extraordinary diversity of perspectives in fashion and media, and to ensure that the momentum that has been building in recent years continues.”

We say this repeatedly because it is necessary to state it: A substantial amount of work remains to be completed.

Enninful’s Legacy of Diversity

Enninful said he was “proud that some significant work has been accomplished” at the publication and expressed his “gratitude” in an editor’s letter.

December found the location of the shoot, which was documented by Steven Meisel at a studio in Manhattan, New York.

In recognition of his contributions to diversity in the fashion industry, Enninful was bestowed with an OBE in the 2016 Birthday Honours List of Queen Elizabeth II.

He assumed the position of editor-in-chief of British Vogue in August 2017 and was elevated to European editorial director of Vogue in December 2020.

Throughout his tenure at the helm of the fashion magazine, he has consistently challenged conventional norms and advocated for increased diversity and inclusion within the sector.

The May 2023 issue of the publication, which featured five disabled people on its cover and interviewed 19 disabled individuals from the fields of fashion, sport, culture, and activism, was deemed “one of the proudest moments of my career” by him.

Later this year, Enninful will assume the positions of editorial adviser of British Vogue and global creative and cultural adviser of Vogue.

Beginning on Tuesday, February 13, his final issue as editor-in-chief of British Vogue will be available for digital download and in newsstands.
