Four people died in a hospital fire in the northern German city of Hamburg.
The fire reportedly started on the third floor of the Helios Clinic in Uelzen at around 22:45 local time (21:45 GMT) on Thursday.
Police stated approximately twenty people were injured, and the death toll might increase due to the severity of some injuries.
Authorities are investigating the fire’s origin.
140 firefighters and rescue personnel tried to contain the blaze, with some rescued using ladders.
“Calls for help” were heard from inside the building, police reported.
Hamburg is located 70 kilometres (43 miles) southeast of Uelzen.
The four confirmed dead were patients, but police said the fatality count could rise due to others critically injured.

Police spokesman Michel Koenemann stated, “There are other people so severely injured that their lives are in acute danger.”
The fire caused an estimated €1m (£862,000) in damages.
The Helios Clinic is the teaching facility of Hannover Medical School, claiming around 750 employees and 42,000 patients annually on its website.
