Jared Goff threw for 272 yards and a touchdown, and rookie Jahmyr Gibbs ran for a season-high 152 yards and a touchdown. On Monday night, the Detroit Lions defeated the Las Vegas Raiders 26-14.

Goff’s Performance

Three early Lions drives faltered, leading to field goals, before Goff delivered an 18-yard touchdown pass to rookie Sam LaPorta in the late stages of the first half, giving the Lions a 16-7 lead.

Garoppolo’s Struggles

Early in the third quarter, Marcus Peters recovered an interception by Goff for 75 yards and scored, bringing Las Vegas (3-5) within two points. The following Raiders’ drive was thwarted when Craig Reynolds fumbled at their three-yard line.

Gibbs’ 27-yard touchdown run gave the Lions a two-score advantage on their third drive of the second half, which they maintained possession of. The 52-yard field goal by Riley Patterson gave the Detroit Lions a 12-point advantage.

That provided the Raiders, who were offensively challenged, with a comfortable cushion.

Although Jimmy Garoppolo’s return was applauded in Las Vegas, it was regretted that he threw a league-leading ninth interception in the first quarter, one play after the Raiders recovered a fumble. Kerby Joseph intercepted Davante Adams’s lofted pass intended for him in the end zone, which was aimed at double coverage.

Raiders’ Offensive Woes

The Raiders, in an attempt to rally, surrendered sacks on three of four fourth-quarter plays and converted a turnover on downs at their 28. The battered quarterback of Las Vegas recorded six sacks.

With 126 yards on the year, Garoppolo, who has been battling a back injury, finished 10 for 21. Garoppolo failed to deliver to Adams far down the field in the late game despite an open receiver and time. At season’s end, the star receiver slammed his helmet to the ground and slumped in contempt on the Raiders’ bench.

“I am at a loss for words,” Adams exclaimed following the contest. “I wish I could articulate something that would not be sensationalised and misconstrued by the media.”

“It is difficult to control your frustration when you are unable to put something together when you know you ought to,” the six-time Pro Bowler continued.

Jacobs’ Limited Impact

The lacklustre season of Josh Jacobs persisted. Late in the first half, he capped 15 carries with 61 yards and a three-yard touchdown that reduced the Raiders’ deficit to 9-7. That constituted their sole offensive score.

Goff completed 26 of 37 throws, six of which went to sick Amon-Ra St. Brown for 108 yards. Additionally, Detroit’s dynamic running attack forced the Raiders to retreat. Gibbs, selected twelfth overall in the current draft, accumulated 37 yards on five receptions and 26 carries for the season.
