The second fatal incident at a mine operated by ArcelorMittal Temirtau in the past two months killed five miners in August.

A conflagration has claimed the lives of at least 32 people at the largest steel mine in Kazakhstan.

Twenty-eight more individuals were hospitalized following the incident at the establishment in Karaganda.

Fourteen of the 252 people who were inside the mine at the time of the incident remain missing, according to ArcelorMittal Temirtau, the Luxembourg steelmaker that owns the mine.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan extended his condolences to the families of the victims.

He also announced that he is finalizing an agreement to nationalize ArcelorMittal Temirtau and instructed ministers to cease investment cooperation with the company.

The second fatal incident at a site managed by ArcelorMittal Temirtau in the past two months, in August, killed five miners.

The Indian entrepreneur acquired the company in 2006, and since then, it has been operating as the world’s largest steel producer.
