Prime Minister’s Participation in Belt and Road Forum

Monday marked the arrival of caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar in China, where he will participate in the “Third Belt and Road Forum (BRF) for International Cooperation” from October 17 to 18. The forum will be held in Beijing.

Commemorating the tenth anniversary of President Xi Jinping’s ambitious global infrastructure and energy initiative. Which aims to revive international trade by replicating the ancient Silk Road, a forum is being held in Beijing.

Strengthening Pakistan-China Relations

In an op-ed, Kakar praises Pakistan-China relations.

An op-ed published in China’s Global Times prior to his departure, Kakar discussed the enduring relations between the two nations.

Regarding the BRF, Kakar lauded “President Xi’s statesmanship and foresight in establishing a worldwide community of shared future ten years ago, introducing a novel notion for international development partnership, global governance, and cooperation, and a fresh approach to international exchanges—therefore outlining a new blueprint for a more interconnected world.”

According to him, Pakistan was one of the initial nations to affiliate itself with the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The individual stated that the CPEC established a significant turning point in the bilateral relationship by “establishing connectivity and economic cooperation as the primary concerns, resulting in unprecedented levels of interconnection between the two nations.

Discussions and MOUs During the Visit

The PMO stated that during his visit, Prime Minister Kakar will engage in bilateral discussions with President Xi Jinping, the highest-ranking Chinese officials, and leaders of other nations that are participating in the forum.

Additionally, the prime minister will meet with Chinese merchants and investors to encourage foreign investment in Pakistan, the statement continued.

The premier will also meet with local dignitaries and merchants in Ürümqi, “in order to promote relations between the people of Xinjiang and Pakistan in addition to business and investment.

Moinul Haque, the Pakistani ambassador to China, was quoted by state-run Radio Pakistan as saying that “a number of agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) will be signed during the visit,” with the ambassador confirming that 18 MoUs would be formalized.

He said the BRF celebrated the Belt and Road Initiative and its centrepiece, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

Focus on Infrastructure Development and Gwadar Port

Pakistan reportedly will sign an MoU to build a cutting-edge Highway Research & Training Centre with Chinese help.

The prime minister will also sign an MOU to improve the KKH from Raikot to Thakot and Raikot to Khunjerab (335 kilometres), phase-2 of the 120-kilometer E-35 segment from Havelian to Thakot, and a motorway segment from Havelian to Mansehra.

The prime minister will additionally deliberate on the development of a motorway connecting Dera Ismail Khan and Zhob. However, throughout the sessions in Beijing, the Gwadar port will continue to be the focal point of discourse.
