Storm Otto: Met Office predicts 75mph winds when first named storm of year hits UK.

When the first named storm of the year reaches the United Kingdom, gusts of 75 mph are possible in certain regions.

The Met Office has cautioned that Friday morning will likely see the arrival of Storm Otto.

The storm, given its name by Danish forecasters, is expected to impact the northeastern shore of England and the majority of Scotland.

Until Friday afternoon, it will travel eastwards across the far north of the United Kingdom.

Storm Otto: Met Office predicts 75mph winds when first named storm of year hits UK.

Met Office chief meteorologist Andy Page stated, “Storm Otto will bring high winds and rain to the United Kingdom, with some northern regions of Scotland and the northeast of England potentially experiencing wind gusts over 75 mph.

“There is a possibility of travel disruptions, and high-sided vehicles may be especially susceptible in this scenario. There is expected to be 40-50 mm of rain associated with Storm Otto in parts of western Scotland.

Other potential effects include the likelihood of large waves, particularly along the North Sea coast. And the possibility of some infrastructure and building damage.

Otto is the first named storm to affect the United Kingdom since September when the current storm-naming season began.

Storm Antoni will be the Met Office’s first designated storm of the season.

The Met Office predicts cloudiness and rain on Saturday for the rest of the weekend.
