ICC fines Ravi Jadeja for finger ointment but not ball tampering.

Ravi Jadeja was penalized for failing to inform umpires that he was applying balm to an injured finger during India’s opening Test against Australia.

The Widespread Cricket Council, though, exonerated the all-rounder of ball tampering after the event ignited international controversy.

Jadeja’s removal of something from Mohammed Siraj’s hand during Thursday’s show prompted a heated controversy.

After the exchange with Siraj, Jadeja stroked his hands and index finger on his left hand around the ball. Which he later claimed was a calming lotion.

Jadeja violated the ICC’s code of conduct and was fined a quarter of his match money.

Andy Pycroft, the game’s referee, requested a sanction, which the 34-year-old said was appropriate.

ICC fines Ravi Jadeja for finger ointment but not ball tampering.

“In reaching his decision to sanction the player in addition to the Level 1 sanction he issued, the match referee was convinced that the cream was administered to the finger only for medical purposes,” according to an ICC statement.

“The cream was not applied to the ball as an artificial substance. Hence it did not alter the state of the ball. Which would have violated clause 41.3 of the ICC playing conditions.”

On Thursday night, Jadeja, India captain Rohit Sharma, and the team’s manager were shown footage of the incident, which occurred when Australia was 5-120.

It is normal for spinners to develop calluses on their hands from gripping the ball. Especially after a period of inactivity.

The India team management explained that the finger spinner was putting the ointment on a swollen index finger on his bowling hand, according to an ICC statement.

This was done without approval from the umpires on the field.

Thursday, former Australia captain Tim Paine responded to a Twitter user’s question on his opinion of the video with the word “interesting,” sparking a debate regarding the incident.

Clips of the event went viral on social media, and former England captain Michael Vaughan weighed in with his opinion.

“What does he have on his spinning finger? Never seen this before…”, Vaughan tweeted.

Michael Clarke, another former Australia Test captain, said he thought Jadeja was probably using vaseline to protect an injured finger but could have avoided any discussion by doing it in front of the umpire.

Clarke stated, “He probably has a blister or a cut on that finger because of his excessive bowling.” “What he should have done in that situation was to hand the ball to the umpire and stand in front of him. While he placed it on his finger”.

I do not consider that to be something. I hope he didn’t have the ball in his possession. If he throws the ball to the umpire in this manner, I don’t believe anyone will comment on it. It is only a perspective.

“I believe there is nothing to it. I may be completely wrong.”

Jadeja was instrumental in India’s innings and 132-run thrashing of Australia, taking seven wickets and scoring 70 runs to put India in a prime position to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar trophy.
