One of Pelé’s daughters has stated that he has not been moved to palliative care, despite rumors to the contrary. Pelé, 82, was hospitalized last week to reevaluate his colon cancer therapy.

Pelé, one of the greatest players of all time, had a colon tumor removed in September 2021 and has been requiring regular hospital care.

The Brazilian newspaper Folha de So Paulo reported on Saturday that he was receiving palliative care after chemotherapy failed to produce the desired results. Doctors for Pelé have not confirmed this information, and Pelé’s daughter, Flavia Nascimento, deemed the news inaccurate.

Pelé is not under palliative care despite claims, says daughter

People’s claims that he is in a terminal condition and receiving palliative treatment are quite harsh. Believe us: that’s not the case,” she told Globo TV in an interview.

As there was no complete remission of her father’s cancer, Nascimento explained that his medicine was occasionally modified.

Medical professionals at the Albert Einstein hospital in So Paulo said on Saturday afternoon that Pelé was in stable condition and had reacted well to treatment for a respiratory infection found after his hospitalization.

Kelly, another of Pelé’s children, stated in the interview that her father contracted Covid-19 three weeks ago, resulting in a respiratory illness.

“He is sickly and old, but he is currently being treated for a respiratory infection and will return home once he recovers,” she said. Currently, he is not saying goodbye in a hospital.

As a striker, Pelé played for Brazil, Santos, and the New York Cosmos. In 1958, 1962, and 1970, he won the World Cup three times, a feat no other player has accomplished.

On Sunday, Santos fans gathered outside the hospital to hold a vigil.

“We are sending positive energy to our king for everything he has done for soccer globally and for Santos,” said the leader of a supporters’ group, Jefferson Silvano.
