Chris Kelly, an investor in SpaceX, opined that Elon Musk’s more effective strategies at SpaceX and Tesla would not transition well to Twitter.

Elon Musk’s strategy “does not bode well” for Twitter’s future, according to an early investor in the billionaire’s SpaceX company.

The social media site has been in a near-constant state of instability since the world’s richest man purchased it in a $44bn transaction last month, with this week’s warnings that a traffic spike during the World Cup may take it offline.

Musk is confronting a major outflow of employees, in addition to the thousands he laid off himself, as a result of his ultimatum that all remaining employees must agree to “high intensity and long hours.”

Musk's 'chainsaw' tactic is bad for Twitter's future.

Chris Kelly, an investor in SpaceX, argued that Elon Musk’s successful strategy at SpaceX would not transition well to Twitter.

Mr. Kelly, the former head of global public policy at Facebook, stated, “He should have taken a much more methodical approach when he assumed leadership.”

“He’s capable of doing incredible things, but he’s gotten into a field that’s much beyond his expertise. He believes a harsh management culture can fix the situation, but it won’t work at a firm like Twitter.

“I’ve witnessed some aggressive management decisions from Elon at Tesla and SpaceX in the past, but I was astonished by this strategy.”

Will it function tomorrow?

The growing unpredictability of Twitter’s future was another shock in a season of extraordinary drama for big tech, which included massive layoffs at Meta and Amazon, the collapse of crypto exchange FTX, and the discredited founder of Theranos being sentenced to more than 11 years in prison.

Mr. Kelly, who considers himself “primarily an Elon admirer,” stated that the Twitter drama was the most dramatic of all.

“The idea that it would go from a global town square to ‘will it operate tomorrow?’ is a significant question,” he remarked.

Elon Musk’s enormous layoffs and chainsaw approach to the corporation do not auger well for its future.

Mr. Kelly was an early SpaceX investor and is “primarily an Elon devotee.”

Musk should hire a new manager.

Former SpaceX head of communications Dex Hunter-Torricke, who now serves on Meta’s oversight board and advises Facebook on moderation, encouraged his old boss to hire a new Twitter CEO to help steady the ship.

He told, “Twitter requires a great deal of attention, and if Elon is delivering it, I wonder who will be in charge at Tesla and SpaceX.”

Regarding Musk’s free speech stance, he cautioned, “The judgments you make in California can have enormous ramifications.”

“Making hasty, impulsive decisions regarding content policy is probably not the best course of action.”
