A well-known Iranian actress shared an Instagram photo of herself sans a headscarf in solidarity with widespread anti-government protests.

In the photograph, Taraneh Alidoosti, best known for her performance in the 2016 Oscar-winning film The Salesman, holds a sign that reads “Woman, Life, Freedom” in Kurdish, a popular slogan during the protests.

Another indication that the Iranian protest movement is gathering support from all sectors of society.

Following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in police detention in September for alleged violations of the country’s strict dress code, nationwide rallies have taken place.

Ms. Alidoosti, who is not Kurdish, accompanied the Instagram photo with a poem.

“Your last absence, the migration of singing birds, is not the end of this struggle,” she wrote.

The 38-year-old pro-reform musician has already condemned the clerical establishment in several Instagram posts.

At least five Iranian actors have uploaded online photos of themselves without the mandatory headscarf in solidarity with the women demonstrating throughout the country.

The city of Zahedan, located in the Iranian province of Sistan and Baluchestan and bordering Afghanistan and Pakistan on the Gulf of Oman, has experienced the most violent protests thus far.

Iranian officials, who attributed Ms. Amini’s death to pre-existing medical conditions, asserted that the unrest was fueled by foreign foes, especially the United States, and blamed armed separatists for the carnage.

The nation has a theocratic government, which means that its governing systems are based on religious rules and doctrines.

Since the 2009 Green Movement demonstrations, the protests have become the greatest danger to the Iranian leadership. The administration is also under international pressure for its treatment of demonstrators.

Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Shiite clerics have dominated Iran. Protests have shifted from focusing on women’s rights and the mandatory hijab to demanding their ouster.
