People were warned not to look directly at the sun, even though a significant portion of the solar disc was obscured, to prevent eye damage.

Today, skywatchers across the United Kingdom witnessed a solar phenomenon in which the sun appeared to have been “bitten in half.”

It was a partial solar eclipse, which occurs when the moon passes between the sun and Earth.

People were warned not to look straight at the sun to prevent eye damage.
