Scotland achieved one of its most spectacular victories in history by defeating West Indies by 42 runs in Hobart during the T20 World Cup.

Scotland’s 160 for five after losing the toss was supported by George Munsey’s undefeated 66 off 53 balls, with notable contributions from Calum MacLeod (23 off 14) and Chris Greaves (16 not out off 11).

The Windies raced to 53 for one, but Evin Lewis was dismissed off the penultimate delivery of the powerplay, marking the beginning of a stunning collapse in which the 2012 and 2016 champions lost seven wickets for 26 runs in 45 deliveries.

It was the key moment in both teams’ opening Group B match in this first round, with Scotland’s Mark Watt shining as the Windies were bowled out for 118 runs in 18.3 overs. Scotland’s chances of qualifying for the Super 12s stage for a second consecutive year were bolstered by the slow left-deft armer’s variations as he concluded with three wickets for 12 from four overs.

Twelve months ago, they defeated Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea, and tournament co-hosts Oman to win their preliminary group and advance to the second round of a World Cup tournament for the first time.

Despite the absence of players such as Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, and Kieron Pollard, the West Indies were favored in a group that included Ireland and Zimbabwe.

However, the frigid conditions at Bellerive Oval appeared to favor Scotland, and the West Indies must now win their final two group games to have the best chance of avoiding an embarrassing exit.
