One of the largest pride events in the United Kingdom is commemorating its 30th year.

Brighton Pride has returned to the streets of the city on the southeastern coast after two years of cancellation owing to Covid.

A big parade is scheduled to depart from Hove Lawns and proceed through the city’s streets.

Saturday evening’s event will feature global diva Christina Aguilera, with Paloma Faith headlining on Sunday.

A spokeswoman for Brighton Pride stated, “2022 will be a happy tribute to the courageous pioneers, campaigners, and supporters who helped us gain the LGBT+ equality we all enjoy today.

Brighton Pride was hosted for the first time in 1973 but did not return to the city until 1991.

The yearly economic impact of the weekend-long celebration, which includes a community march and village party, is approximately £20 million.

Kylie Minogue and Britney Spears were previous headliners. Due to Covid, Mariah Carey’s presence was twice cut short.

This year’s event also commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Sussex Gay Liberation Front’s inaugural march in the city (SGLF).

Peter Tatchell, a homosexual rights activist, stated of the anniversary, “Pride is both a celebration of LGBT+ life and culture, as well as our contribution to the community, as well as a protest about rights.

This year’s Brighton Pride theme is love, protest, and solidarity, and you can see banners condemning human rights violations against our community all over the streets.
