- Trump: Biden is worst president ever
- Trump: Harris easier to defeat than Biden
- GOP leaders demand Biden’s immediate resignation
Following the announcement that Joe Biden, 81, has withdrawn from the 2024 presidential election following months of speculation about his age and fitness to serve another four years, here is how Donald Trump and other Republicans have responded.
Donald Trump has referred to Joe Biden as “the worst president in the history of the United States” following his declaration that he will not run for re-election to the White House.
Mr Trump did not hold back, while other Republicans called for the present President to step down immediately.
He stated that Joe Biden is the worst President in US history. There has never been a president who has caused so much damage to our country, from energy independence to admitting millions and millions of illegal immigrants.
He said, “We will fix what he has done.”
The decision by Mr. Biden, 81, comes after months of speculation about his age and fitness to serve another four years.
When asked if he was startled by the news, Mr Trump responded that he should not have been there in the first place. He should have remained in his basement.
Mr Trump, the first former President to be criminally convicted after being found guilty in a hush money trial in May, also dubbed Mr Biden “crooked” in a statement on his Truth Social platform, claiming he was unfit to run for President… indeed not fit to serve – and never was!
Mr. Trump said, “He only became President by lying, spreading fake news, and refusing to leave his basement.”
“All those around him, including his doctor and the media, knew he couldn’t be President, and he wasn’t. Now, look what he’s done to our country, with millions of people crossing our border unchecked and unvetted, many from prisons, mental institutions, and record numbers of terrorists.
“We will suffer immensely due to his presidency, but we will rapidly repair the harm he has caused. “Make America Great Again!”
Mr Trump is also facing two outstanding criminal charges related to the Capitol rioting in January 2021 and electoral fraud in Georgia.
In a letter to “my fellow Americans,” Mr. Biden stated that he took the decision in “the best interest of my party and the country” and that serving as President was the “greatest honour” of his life.
The development brings the 2024 presidential race into unknown terrain just four months before the election. Another Democrat must now be picked to face Republican nominee Donald Trump in a race marred by tension, division, and an assassination attempt.
Mr Biden has endorsed Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee, adding, “Democrats, it’s time to unite and defeat Trump.”
Mr Trump told CNN that he felt she would be easier to defeat.
Republicans and sympathizers say, “Bring it on.”
JD Vance, Mr Trump’s vice presidential candidate, branded Mr Biden “the worst President in my lifetime,” while Ms Harris was “right there with him every step of the way” in a statement on X.
Over the last four years, he added that she has co-signed Biden’s open border and green fraud policies, which have raised the cost of housing and groceries. She accepted responsibility for all of these failings. She lied about Biden’s mental competence for nearly four years, leaving the country with a president incapable of doing his duties.
Mr Vance stated that he and Mr Trump are “ready to save America, whoever is at the top of the Democrat ticket,” adding, “Bring it on.”
Other Republicans have reacted to the incumbent President’s announcement, with Elise Stefanik, House Republican Conference chair, and Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson demanding his resignation.
Mr Biden intends to serve out the duration of his term, which expires at midday on January 20, 2025.
Ms Stefanik stated that if Biden cannot compete for re-election, he will be unsuitable to serve as President of the United States. He must immediately resign.
Mr Johnson echoed her words, saying, “November 5 cannot come soon enough.”
“If Biden does not believe he can serve as Commander in Chief for another four years, why should we trust he can perform the job for the next four months? Texas congressman Pat Fallon asked, “Who is in charge?”
Senator Steve Daines of Montana issued a statement calling on Mr Biden to resign, citing concerns over the country’s national security.
Suppose Joe Biden is no longer capable of competing for re-election. In that case, he is no longer capable of functioning as President, he stated on X. Being President is the most challenging job in the world, and I am no longer confident that Joe Biden can carry out his obligations as Commander-in-Chief.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis chastised Ms Harris in response to Mr Biden’s revelation, saying she had been “complicit in a massive cover-up to hide and deny the fact” that the president “was not capable of discharging the duties of the office”.
He said, “She was also the border czar during the worst border crisis in American history.” Democrats are simply shifting the deck chairs on the Titanic.
“Democrat party bosses just proved that they have absolutely no respect for their own voters,” added House majority leader Steve Scalise, also speaking on X. “After lecturing others about democracy, they just forced Joe Biden off the ticket – trashing the primary choice of 14 million of their own voters.”
Mr Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., also criticized Ms Harris in a statement on X: “Kamala Harris owns Joe Biden’s entire leftwing policy record. The only difference is that she is much more liberal and less qualified than Joe, which says a lot.
She was put in command of the border, and we witnessed the worst invasion of illegal immigrants in our history!!!
