According to his family’s Facebook post, 50-year-old firefighter Corey Comperatore died during the attempted assassination of former US President Donald Trump.
“My brother, Corey Comperatore, was killed at the Pennsylvania Trump Rally.” The hatred for one man claimed the life of the one man we loved the most,” his sister Dawn Comperatore Schafer wrote in a statement on Sunday.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that Comperatore previously served as chief of the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro confirmed Comperatore’s identity during a news conference on Sunday after speaking with his wife and children. He stated that he is a father of two daughters who attend church every Sunday.
Corey was a passionate admirer of the former president and was so pleased to be with him last night in the neighborhood, he said, adding that Comperatore’s wife “asked that I share with all of you that Corey died a hero, that Corey dove on his family to protect them last night, at this rally.”

Authorities identified the culprit in the attempted murder of the Republican presidential candidate during a campaign rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania, as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, whose exact motivations are unknown.
The suspect, a Bethel Park, Pennsylvania native, opened fire on the president with an assault rifle from the top of an adjacent building, injuring his right ear before being encircled and carried away by security authorities.
Crooks was killed by a Secret Service counter-sniper seconds after allegedly opening fire on the stage where Trump was giving a speech.
He also injured two other people, both of whom are thought to be in critical condition.
Authorities reportedly discovered explosive devices in the suspect’s vehicle and searched his home.
