After two years of Democratic dominance of both the House and Senate, the power dynamic in Washington will now shift; nevertheless, the Republican majority is razor-thin and additional contests are still being tallied.

The Republicans have regained control of the House of Representatives in the United States.

After two years of Democratic dominance of the House and Senate, the balance of power in Washington will shift.

It indicates that the administration of President Joe Biden may struggle to implement some of its legislative agenda.

Republicans win House of Representatives, estimates show.

A decisive victory in the state of Nevada allowed the Democrats to maintain control of the Senate.

NBC predictions indicate that the Republicans gained enough seats to reach the 218 majorities needed to regain the House.

The Democrats’ fear of a “red tsunami” of triumph was, however, unfounded.

The anticipated increase in support for the Republican Party, many of whose candidates were backed by Donald Trump, did not materialize, leaving them with a razor-thin majority.

Now that Republicans have assumed control of important committees, they will be able to shape legislation and investigate Mr. Biden, his family, and the administration.

There is significant interest in probing the international business dealings of Hunter Biden, the president’s son. Some of the most conservative legislators have discussed the possibility of impeaching Mr. Biden, even though it will be far more difficult for the party to do so with a slim majority.

Any proposal that emerges from the House may face formidable obstacles in the Senate, where Democrats hold a razor-thin majority.

Both parties view the Georgia Senate runoff on December 6 as their final opportunity to bolster their respective ranks.

Mr. Biden thanked House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy on his party’s victory and stated that he was eager to collaborate with them to “achieve results for working people.”

He added: “In this election, voters spoke plainly about their concerns: the need to cut expenses, defend the right to choose, and preserve our democracy.

“As I stated last week, the future is too bright to be consumed by political conflict.

The American people expect us to take action on their behalf. They desire that we prioritize the topics that important to them and improve their lives. And I will work with any Republican or Democrat who is prepared to collaborate with me to achieve their goals.”

Mr. McCarthy tweeted that the Republicans had “flipped the House of the People.”

Continue counting

Votes in tough contests are still being tabulated, so the true extent of the party’s majority may not be apparent for several more days – or weeks.

However, they are on track to assemble what could be the party’s thinnest majority of the 21st century, rivaling 2001, when Republicans held a nine-seat majority (221-212 plus two independents).

Historically, the party in power generally always suffers losses in a president’s first midterm elections, and Mr. Biden’s low support ratings are mostly attributable to rising inflation and economic concerns.

The results in the House come one day after former president Donald Trump declared his desire to run for president again.

The upcoming Congress will meet on January 3, 2023.
