After the accident, one individual was airlifted to the University Hospital of Wales.
A tent containing a baby was struck by a car that veered off the road and crashed into a campground, injuring two persons in critical condition and seven others.
Clare Harris, who operates the Pembrokeshire campsite Newgale with her husband Mike, stated that the infant is “okay” after the ordeal.
It is unclear whether the infant is among those who required hospitalization.
A blue Ford Fiesta hit a tent and a group of people at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, leaving two critically injured.
Welsh Ambulance Service reported that one patient was airlifted to the University Hospital of Wales.
Four patients were transported via ambulance to Glangwilli Hospital, while one was transported to Morriston Hospital.
Mr. Harris stated that the vehicle was traveling at “at least three times the speed limit” when it “had to brake and lost control”
“I had no idea a car could travel so quickly down the road,” he said. “It was traveling 80 to 90 mph in a 30 mph zone.”
“As a result of his pace, it veered off the road, over the ditch separating the campsite from the main road, and landed approximately 100 meters from where the driver began to brake.
“It completed three complete revolutions and landed on its wheels. It rolled through a family’s camping shelter. The infant was in a bassinet.
“The vehicle then rolled and landed on three individuals. The occupants were able to tilt the vehicle forward 90 degrees so that it rested on its side. They released the three prisoners.”
He added, “There were miraculously no casualties. There are no life-threatening injuries, but there are varying degrees of life-altering injuries.”
Ms. Harris stated, “The vehicle was racing down the hill when it realized it needed to slow down and attempted to apply the brakes.
“It flipped and tumbled multiple times before colliding with the tent.
“A young infant, a baby, was in the tent at the time; thankfully, they are safe.
The police are currently dealing with a tragic accident, and that is all we can say at this time.
Levi Davies, 24 years old, from Gwent, was residing at the campground when the collision occurred.
He stated, “There were nine members of our group. We heard the screeching of the car’s tires as it rounded the corner, followed by a deafening crash as it drove onto the campsite.
“Out of sheer panic, we fled… When we arrived, there was one person still inside the vehicle, and he was covered in blood.
“There were two campers, one of whom was in a terrible state.
“One of them had a severely injured leg; I do not know what other injuries they sustained.”
He added, “There was a lot of commotion, a lot of screaming and shouting, and a lot of people appeared out of nowhere. You don’t see many people during the day, but then everyone was there.
“A lot of noise.”
When it left the A487 and crashed, the vehicle was likely travelling from Roch to St. Davids.
Dyfed Powys Police reported that car occupants were among the injured.
In a statement, police said, “The road was closed to allow for investigations and reopened today at approximately 7:45 a.m.”
“Officers are seeking information on a blue Ford Fiesta and its occupants.
“We are particularly interested in any dashcam or doorbell footage that may have captured the vehicle’s journey from Roch to the crash site in Newgale.”
“The team was paged at 11:23 p.m. last night to assist with a multi-agency incident in Newgale,” stated HM Coastguard in Broad Haven.
We organized a helipad and assisted paramedics with patient care.
A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson stated, “We were alerted to an incident at Newgale Campsite in Pembrokeshire at approximately 22:40 last night.”
“We dispatched six emergency ambulances, one duty operations manager, one Cymru high acuity response unit, and the emergency medical and retrieval transfer service and search and rescue helicopter to assist our crews on the site.
“One patient was flown to the University Hospital of Wales, four patients were taken by road to Glangwilli Hospital, and one patient was taken by road to Morriston Hospital.”
